The ambassador also has the important task of promoting his country and therefore also its image, its traditions and its history. The history of Antigua and Barbuda is long and ancient, it has known slavery and a long colonization and finally gained independence from the English crown in 1981, while continuing to be a member of the Commonwealth and to recognize Queen Elizabeth as its Head of State.

Everyone knows the island of Antigua for its beaches, crystal clear sea, orchids, bamboos, palm trees and excellent climate. That is why it is a popular holiday destination throughout the year. Moreover, the island has 365 beaches, all free and open to the public, “one for every day of the year” as the locals say.

Ambassador Dario Item therefore hopes that, with its efforts, he will be able to help relations between the Caribbean state and other countries not only by protect citizens of Antigua and Barbuda abroad, but also by bringing tourists from all over the world to discover Antigua.
