Dario Item presents Credentials to His Majesty the King

In the Royal Palace of Madrid, on January 19, 2019, King Felipe VI of Spain welcomed the ambassadors of Antigua and Barbuda, Dario Item, of Kuwait, Ayadah Alsaidi, of Costa Rica, Ana Helena Chacón, of Uzbekistan, Jakhongir Ganiev, of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Louise Nzanga, of Brazil, Pompeu Andreucci and of Senegal, Mariame Sy Epse.

The meeting between His Majesty the King and the ambassadors took place in the Royal Palace. During the presentation of the Letters of Credence, the new seven heads of mission were accredited as representatives of the respective nations in the Kingdom of Spain.

The ceremony

The seven new ambassadors arrived at the Royal Palace in Madrid in a carriage and were accompanied by the civil staff of the National Heritage, who wore period costumes for the occasion. Then, they were received in the courtyard of the Armoury by members of the Royal Guard. The soundtrack to this important moment was the national anthems of each country.

It was the ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda, Dario item, who was the first to present his credentials to Felipe VI. After being announced by the staff of the diplomatic ceremonial, Dario Item reached the center of the room and handed over the credentials to the King.

As always, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, Josep Borrell, witnessed this event.

The ceremony took place in accordance with the Vienna Convention of 1961. And as per protocol, at the end of the ceremony, Dario Item and the other ambassadors had an individual conversation with the King, during which issues of great interest were discussed.
